Competition Number Three - The Christmas Spirit Launch

Hi everyone. Here's the third and final comp. Plenty of interest in the comps across FB, Twitter and here. So glad you are enjoying them.

I would just like to mention that the winner of the first competition and who will now be included in the Amazon voucher draw is Toni L from Canada - I was really touched by her story about her mom in the ICU.

Now some of you may know I am no baker, and you might find it surprising that I set The Christmas Spirit principally in a bakery and café. As I like to say, I know how to eat cakes, not make them!

So, tell me, are you a master baker, have you had any roaring successes and with what? Have they gone down a treat? Or, like mine, do your scones never rise? Are they the consistency of putty? I've made a rhubarb crumble and a bramble crumble in my whole life - brambles are blackberries to non-Scots! Or do you have a baking or culinary disaster you can share? (If we're talking culinary and not just baking, mine run to pages!)
Just jot down your story, add your country and email address and I will pick a winner for the draw at some point on Wed.
And remember, if you've bought a copy of The Christmas Spirit, PLEASE send me your Amazon invoice to soozbuch@gmail.com if you want to be entered into the Amazon voucher draw. I'll be drawing this on Wed morning. Please also delete any personal details, eg address from the invoice.

If you haven't picked up your copy yet - get yourself in the Christmas spirit - the story itself starts on 1st Dec, so you better hurry as you're now playing catch up!

Here are the Amazon buy links  -

Good luck!

  1. I love baking! I have basically learnt to cook from my mother whose skills were passed down to her through our family, from one generation to the next.

One particular event that stands-out in my mind was when i was younger, at school and i wasn't given a recipie sheet with basic instructions on. I however made from scratch a treacle tart with handmade pastry ~ basically making it up as i went along {without the sheet} and it ended up perfect!! I think that was the best one i did - just shows using intuition can work.

Thanks for amazing giveaways! x Merry Christmas

  2. I absolutely love baking but what I love more is seeing everyone try them out!! I made scones before but did not have round cutters so made them into hearts and they turned out lovely with jam!! I also love to bake all kinds of cake, chocolate, plain, victoria sponge but what I liked best was chocolate and orange!

There was also a time where I baked an apple pie and as I had some left over we (me and my sis) made an apple crumble. We also made that day a brownie and I swear it was the best brownie ever, my other sister told us too make more!!!!

Thank you for these comps, I am having fun remembering everything!
